Making hydrophones for Listening Landscapes
For Listening Landscapes I’ve been busy building some hydrophones, just simple piezo sensors attached to some instrument wire. You can pick these components up for around 10p, and just reuse an old guitar lead (cut off the jack at one end and save for another hydrophone!) or buy some online. The outer casing just needs to protect the piezo, a piece of old milk container (HPDE) is perfect. You can even recycle the HDPE if you decide to disassemble the hydrophone.
To make them stereo you can just use a mic lead (two wires and a ground), attach two piezos and split the ground to both the piezos. Couldn’t be simpler. I will add instructions to this site as soon as I have a moment.
